Early this year, Roblox reached out to us to take part in the platform's re-entry to its nostalgia, Events! The Hunt, in question, was a return to the classic egg hunt, where players would go into games and complete various challenges to obtain cosmetics that their characters could wear. However, for Splitting Point there was a huge twist. For starters, most of the team except a few were indisposed for some time. GDC was happening in San Francisco, which meant that Janzen and the rest of the upper team were there.
This unique opportunity presented a spotlight to shine on. Had I not been in education, I'd be in San Francisco at that point, but as the only senior staff at hand for the most part, it was on me to lead the teams and plan these events. This opportunity skyrocketed even further when we were approached to add another game to the list, where I ended up being responsible for the smooth implementation and management of three different games, as well as managing the communication between Roblox and us for a fourth game.
In the end, I designed and produced three awesome events. An exclusive scavenger hunt where you have to climb a tricky mountain with nothing but a ladder and your tolerance for falling; A high-adrenaline bicycle race happening in a different realm, and an extremely Deadly Trivia game where one wrong move means your demise. The events were well received, with STEEP STEPS and Bike of Hell being some of the most popular choices within the Hunt's own hub, and I learnt a lot about how to approach these kinds of events in the future.
In general, this was a challenging moment in my career where I pushed myself. If it hadn't been for the team members who stayed home during GDC, we would have struggled. Nonetheless, this experience serves as an example to myself of what I'm capable of and what I'm striving towards.
